Martha Laurette Denson Cox was born to the late Milwood and Annie Laura Mallory Denson on February 4, 1957, om Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia.

Martha was educated in the Upson County School System. She graduated from Upson High School in 1975. She attended Gordon State College, Mercer University, and Flint River Technical College. Martha went on to receive her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from American Intercontinental University.



On April 24, 1976, Martha married the love of her life, Kelvin Cox. Their bond lasted for over forty years, and she was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Her union with “Kel” allowed them to establish a loving and supportive family.

A worshipper and woman of faith, Martha joined Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Thomaston, GA at an early age. She also served faithfully at New Life Church, where she was the church administrator for many years. Later, Martha became affiliated with Griffin First Assembly of God (GFA) in Griffin, GA. She attended the GFA McDonough Campus, where she was actively involved with the intercessory prayer team.



To help support her family, she was employed at Carter’s Mill as a seamstress in Thomaston, GA, and later as a payroll specialist in Barnesville, GA. A woman of many talents, her love for cooking led her to begin her own catering business. She frequently catered for churches, schools and family functions.



During her leisure time, she enjoyed shopping at Walmart, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and worshipping God.



Martha was preceded in death by: her son, Kelvin Cox, Jr. her brothers, James Lamar “Po Bill” Denson, Alfred “Dunkin” Denson, O’Neal Childs, and Walter Densons; and her sisters, Joycelyn Denson and Ingrid Denson. On Thursday, October 25, 2018, Martha entered into eternal rest. She will be missed by her family, her friends, and all who were greatly impacted by her life.

She leaves to cherish: her devoted husband, Kelvin Cox of Yatesville, GA; her children, Jermey Middlebrooks of Perry, GA, Ingrid (Melissa) Jackson of Barnesville, GA, Chrystal (Rev. Tyrus) McDowell of Locust Grove, GA, Amber Cox and Kevin Cox, both Yatesville, Ga; her grandchildren, Jonte’ Diamond, Amiyah, Ty’mere. Karmen and Mac; her great-granddaughter, Jordyn sisters and brothers, Michael (Heavenly) Denson, Lisa Denson, Tawana Searcy, Diane (Jim) Daniel, Znobbie Harries, Peggy Collier, Kenneth (Natlie) Childs, all of Thomaston, GA, Debra “Depo” Reeves Detroit, MI, Mildred “Sooky” Felipa of Baltimore, MD, Marvin (Michele) McGill of Dallas, GA, Susan (Carl) Trice of Hampton, GA, Dennis Worthy of Camilla, GA, Bonita “Bonnie” Ba Badgett of Atlanta, GA, and Sherry Denson of Columbus, Ga; mother-in-law, Doris Cox of Yatesville, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony (Sandra) Cox of Barnesville, GA, and Timmie Lyons, of Thomaston, Ga; aunts and uncles, Catherine Smith of Thomaston, GA, Rev. Robert (Patricia) Releford of Yatesville, GA, and John Lee Releford of Macon, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
