Lewistown - Geraldine “Jerry” Allen, 102 of Lewistown, passed away at 2:30 PM Monday July 24, 2017 at the Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

She was born October 12, 1914 in rural Table Grove, the daughter of William A. and Bessie Mae (White) Randall. She married Paul B. Allen on March 11, 1939 in Lewistown. Jerry and Paul celebrated 74 years of being happily married. Paul preceded her in death on September 16, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Janice (Allen) Mowery, and one sister, Mildred Hackett. Survivors include one daughter, Roberta (Robert) Rakestraw of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Vanessa Shaw of Houston, TX; Sienna (Daniel) Singer of River Forest, IL; and Brandon (Shannon) Rakestraw of Frisco, TX; and six great grandchildren.

Jerry was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church since 1950. She was an active member of her church over the years serving on the church board over 35 years, served as World Service Chairman for 25 years, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of Ruth Circle of the church, and other committees. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Lodge, a former member of the Rebecca Lodge, past president of the Junior Women’s Club, past president of the Senior Women’s Club, and a former member of the Tourist Club. She was also a 50 year member of the Illinois Federation of Women’s Club, and a Brownie Scout leader. In addition, Jerry and Paul were co-owners of the Gambles Store in Lewistown for 51 years.

Jerry was known for her friendliness and caring attitude. Jerry and Paul were Grandpa and Grandma to some friends’ children and God-parents to others. Jerry enjoyed cooking, especially dinners for her family, and planning large dinners for her church. Although much time and effort was given for the welfare of her community and to others, Jerry’s love and dedication to her family and God was always foremost.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Lewistown United Methodist Church with Reverend Shane Smith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown United Methodist Church. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com
