She was born September 16, 1923 in Burnside Township, MI daughter of the late Phillip and Mary M. (Stein) Doherty. Cecelia graduated from Marlette High School with the Class of 1941. She proudly served her country as a Clerk in the United States Marine Corp Women's Reserves during World War II. Cecelia married Don J. Lambert on December 27, 1947 at Assumption Grotto in Detroit, MI. They were married 48 years and raised four children. She started her working career at General Coach Works and then later worked for Marlette Homes Inc., both in Marlette, MI. Cecelia was a member of St. Elizabeth Women's Club and a charter member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marlette, MI. She and her family enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Caseville, MI and later their retirement home in North Fort Myers, FL. Cecelia loved spending time with family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, one daughter, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband, Don J. Lambert in 1995; one grandson, Michael Cole Lambert; five brothers, Francis, Bernard, Carl, Robert and Lawrence Doherty; three sisters, Gertrude Real, Sister Mary Elizabeth Doherty and Rosela Ford.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Holy Family Parish St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marlette, MI with Father Robert Schikora officiating. Burial will take place at Marlette Cemetery in Marlette, MI with Military Honors being conducted by Marlette VFW Post #4837 and Marine Corp Honor Guard.
