Maria was born in Ireland to John and Hannah Trainor. There is some descrepancy as to the year of her birth. The tombstone says 1824, yet her obituary states she was 80 years old which would put her birth at 1829. She married Alexander Miller about 1847, possibly around Detroit where their first child, John James Miller, was born. She and her husband are considered Grand Rapids' Pioneers. They had a total of 13 children.
