The County Coroner's office stated that Potts was operating a bulldozer when it suddenly caught fire. He leaped from the vehicle and was attempting to save another piece of machinery from the flames when the seizure occurred.
He was born June 19, 1921 in Canonsburg, a son of William T. and Georgia Lowman Potts Sr., Canonsburg RD1, who survive.
Mr. Potts had resided in the Canonsburg area his entire life and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Air I Force. He was a member of LOOM 127 of Canonsburg, Muse Volunteer Fire Department and was well-known in stock car racing circles as an owner. He was a member of Pittsburgh Racing Association since it started and also a past member of NASCAR.
Surving are his wife, Dorothy White Potts two sons, Donald, U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Fla., and Thomas, at home; two daughters, Patricia and Edythe, both at home; one sister, Mrs. Edith Gossett, Canonsbure RD 1.
Friends will be received after 7 o'clock this evening in the Speakman Funeral Home, Houston, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25.
Burial will be in Oak Spring cemetery in charge of Rev. Ralph T. Kemper, pastor of the South Canonsburg Church.
