Paul A. Cooney

Paul A. Cooney, 92, Cresson, passed away Sunday, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Munster Township, son of the late Charles and Matilda (Yingling) Cooney.
Surviving are his wife, Marcelle (Panek) Cooney; and two daughters: Patty of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joi (Beverly) of Loretto.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy; a daughter, Cindy; his parents; three brothers: Thomas A., James R. and Charles M. Cooney; and two sisters: Mary Margaret Schouten and Edna Elizabeth Barrett. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In 1955, Paul founded Cooney Brothers Coal Co. with his two brothers, Charles M. and James R. Cooney. He loved golf, sports, work and life.
At Paul’s request, there will be no public visitation.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, 608 Main St., Lilly, Monsignor John R. Sasway celebrant.
Arrangements are by Serenko-Claar Funeral Home PC, Portage.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to UPMC-Hillman Cancer Center, 5150 Centre Ave., Suite 1B, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
