Sylvester (Sally) Birringer, age 86, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 14, 2004 at his home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by the Rev. Gerald Foley and Sally's brother, the Rev. Raphael Birringer S.D.S., at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc, on Friday, June 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Highway 310, Manitowoc.

Sally was born Sept. 21, 1917 in the town of Kossuth, to the late Mathias and Mary Nachtwey Birringer. He served with the United States Army's 32nd Division during World War II in the Pacific Theater of War. During his military service he was awarded the Purple Heart. Sally was honorably discharged in 1945. On June 1, 1946, he married Gertrude H. Schamburek at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Gertrude preceded him in death on March 2, 1975. He was employed by the Manitowoc County Highway Department for 34 years, retiring in 1979. His memberships include Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #710 and Otto Oas VFW Post #659. He also was a past member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Kenneth and Barbara Birringer of Ypsilanti, Mich., and their children: Nicholas and Virginia; a daughter and son-in-law: Mary Jo and Jim Barbeau of Manitowoc, and their children: Matthew and Renee; two brothers: Erwin (Agnes) Birringer of Manitowoc; the Rev. Raphael Birringer S.D.S. of Milwaukee; three very special friends: Steve, Barb and Robyn; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers; and two sisters.

Friends may call at Holy Innocents Catholic Church on Friday, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Sally's greatest love was for his children and grandchildren. We will always love you Dad and Grandpa. You will be with us, in our hearts, forever.
