Frankie Dorr Smillie
January 11, 1958 - November 11, 2018
Resident of Cupertino

Frankie Dorr Smillie passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 in her home in Cupertino, CA with family by her side at the age of 60.

Frankie was born in San Jose, CA on January 11, 1958. The youngest of three, she was an incredibly sweet, kind, and caring child who lit up the room with her infectious smile and bright blue eyes. Growing up, Frankie loved to garden, paint, cook, and spend time with family, friends, and her loyal dogs. After graduating James Lick HS, she met her husband John in 1977. They married in 1979, bought a house in Cupertino, and immediately grew their family.

A mother of three, Frankie was an incredibly loving, selfless, and proud mother who devoted her life to her family. For 30+ years, she spent her time dreaming up elaborate and creative birthday parties, attending every sporting event/dance competition/school function possible, building sets for school plays, designing school yearbooks year-after-year, crafting the best halloween costumes imaginable, helping her kids build the best school projects out of their class, organizing fundraisers and auctions, and more.

Frankie was also an incredibly creative and talented soul who had an eye for design and could make something out of anything. She loved to build elaborate scrapbooks, and took countless pictures and videos over the years, documenting every special moment and memory with her friends and family. She was also an incredible cook, and brought so much happiness to others through the food that she made.

Later in life, Frankie loved to hike, bike, read, explore the Bay Area, spend time by the ocean, visit lighthouses, track and research her family ancestry, and travel with her daughter Jillian.

In August 2018, she was very suddenly diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), an extremely rare disease that affects one in a million people each year. A disease with no cure or treatment, Frankie courageously faced the disease with her family and close friends at her side. She will be deeply missed and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Frankie is survived by her husband John; daughter Jillian (b. 1985); sons Ian (b. 1981) and Jack (b. 1994); parents Rosamond and Frank Dorr; sister Margie Zirilli (Don); brother David Dorr; niece Melissa Stamps, and two loyal and loving puppies Rocco and Bella.

Friends and family are all invited to a visitation on Tuesday, November 20 from 5:00-9:00 pm at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos (615 N Santa Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, CA 95030). A private graveside service will be held. A celebration of life in memory of Frankie will be held in the new year for family and friends. Details will be shared later.
