"OBITUARY - John C Guist, one of the pioneer citizens of this place, was found dead in bed Monday morning at his home, 154 Brook street. He had been suffering for some time past with lung and heart trouble and this caused his death. Deceased was raised in Venango county and was at one time a commissioner of that county. In the early days of the state militia he was brigadier general of the Twentieth brigade. He came to Titusville about thirty years ago and has resided here ever since. He was a carpenter by trade and followed that business up to the time of his death. Mr Guist was sober and industrious and highly respected by all who knew him. He was 72 years and 8 months old when he died. The deceased is survived by his wife and six daughters, Mrs R W Kerr, of Oil Creek; Mrs T C Avery, of Buffalo; Mrs Hortense George, of Mercer, Pa; and the Misses Elizabeth, Ina and Minnie, of this city. The funeral will take place from the family residence at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The interment will be at Woodlawn and private."
