"Death of a Well Known Titusville Lady Occurred on Tuesday - Mrs Mary Guist, in her 77th year, died at her home at No 154 Brook street at 7:20 o'clock Tuesday morning. She had been ill for two weeks. She suffered an attack of pneumonia and a weakness of the heart, which developed during the progress of the disease, [and] was responsible for her death. Mrs Guist was born in Venango county on Oct 31, 1831. She was married sixty years ago to the late John Guist, and they moved to Titusville about 1870. Mr Guist died thirteen years ago. The deceased was a model wife and a kind and affectionate mother. She was known and loved by a large number of acquaintances. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was an excellent Christian woman. She is survived by the following daughters: Mrs Minnie Wolf of Davis City (sic) [David City], Neb; Mrs Warren Kerr, Miss Inez Guist and Miss Lizzie Guist of Titusville; Mrs Hortense George of Grove City, and Mrs Anna Avery of Buffalo. Funeral services in her remembrance will be held at the home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The Rev S M Gordon of the Methodist church will be the officiating clergyman. Burial will be made in Woodlawn cemetery."
