ALFRED "FRED" BUTLER, 85, of Elm Street, an employee in the shoe industry for more than 20 years, retiring from the Alden Shoe Co., Middleboro, in 1974, died yesterday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia F. (Frado) Butler.
Born in Taunton, a son of the late Manuel and Rose (Santos) Butler, he was a Somerset resident for 62 years.
Mr. Butler was co-founder of the Somerset Babe Ruth Baseball League and a member of the Somerset Village Seniors Club. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.
An avid gardener, he had previously been a self-employed farmer many years ago.
