Monroe, Wis., June 1.— Ben Benfer, 70, of 731 14th avenue, Monroe, died at 5:30 a.m. yesterday in St. Clare hospital, following six weeks in the hospital. Mr. Benfer had been ill for many years and had undergone 14 major operations.

Son of Noah and Mary Jury Benfer, he was born in Oneco township, Stephenson county, Illinois, July 14, 1877. He received his schooling in Oneco township, and on July 23 1909, was married to Hercy Smith of Freeport. The family lived on the old Benfer homestead until he retired in 1942. Mr. Benfer is survived by his wife; one son, Alton of Winslow; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Buehler of Orangeville; three brothers, Karneul of Winslow, Walton of Waukegan and Robert of Harvard, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Ritzman of Freeport and Mrs. Mary Diestelmeier of Lena; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Steussy funeral home at 1:15 p.m. and at Stavers church at 2 p.m. Rev. Homer Retzlaff officiating. Burial will be in Winslow cemetery.
