WINSLOW—James Kearney Benfer, 86, retired Winslow area farmer, died at 1:40 pan. Wednesday in a Stockton nursing home. He had been ill for several days. Mr. Benfer was born Oct. 20, 1866, in Clearfield County, Pa., the son of Noah and Mary (Jury) Benfer. On Dec. 26, 1889, he married Nettie Heise at Orangeville and they farmed in Winslow area. His wife died in 1945.

Surviving are one son, Orvin Benfer, at the Downey, HI., Veterans Hospital; two daughters, Mrs. Will Fritsch, Winslow; Mrs. John Heft, Lena; two brothers, G. W. Benfer of Waukegan and Robert Benfer, in Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Ritzman, Freeport; Mrs. John Diestelmeier, Lena; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Five brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cardascio Funeral Home in Winslow, with Rev. John Bruce, pastor of the Winslow Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lily cemetery. Friends may call Friday at the funeral home.
