Lyle Howard "Smitty" Smith, 82, Sturgis, died May 21, 2007, near Winner.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Roger Crowhurst officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lawn Cemetery in Lead.

Lyle was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Huff, N.D., about 24 miles south of Mandan, N.D., to Paul and Esther (Cessna) Smith. He attended school in the Huff area. He lived on a farm until 1950 when he moved to South Dakota. He drove truck for Albert Derby until his retirement in 1987.

Smitty was married to Beverly Mundy. He enjoyed visiting with everyone. One of his favorite hobbies was to watch the news.

Survivors include four children, Eddie Schmeltz, Sturgis, Noel Mundy, Lovington, N.M., Jeanie Gardiner, Rapid City, and Jackie Schmeltz, Minot, N.D.; eight sisters, Edna (Eugene) Vogel, Mandan, N.D., Laura Spurs, Vermillion, Janette Christman, Spearfish, June Jones, Spearfish,
Rennie Minnx, El Reno, Okla., Carrol (Darwin) Eckhart,
Lead, Vernie (David) Brisco, Morman, Okla., and Mildred
(George) Schanaman, Minatare, Neb.; five brothers, Keith
(Norma) Bergstrom, Spearfish, Micky (Fern) Bergstrom,
St. Onge, Norman (Beverly) Bergstrom, Whitewood, Don (Esther) Bergstrom, Fargo, N.D., Holly (Judy) Bergstrom, Minnesota; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Smith; his mother and stepfather, Esther and Raymond Bergstrom; one sister, Violet; and two brothers, Marvin and Dale Bergstrom.
