Joan Virginia Allen Ford Tichenor, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away on Christmas Morning, 2018. A native of Warren County, she was born in Oakland, Kentucky to the late Mary Gwyn Dunn Allen and Andrew Cole Allen, senior. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville and a retired employee of the University of Louisville Library. An excellent genealogist and family historian, she was a member of the Daughters of American Colonists, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the National Society of Colonial Dames, the Issac Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Clan Wardlaw Association, the Huguenot Society, the First Families of Kentucky, the Genealogical Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the Daughters of 1812. Her memberships also included the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Cole Allen, senior, her mother, Mary Gwyn Allen Fiser, and her first husband, William Brandt Ford, senior, and she was the widow of William W. “Buddy” Tichenor.

Her survivors include her daughter, Ginny Petrey and her husband, Jim, of Shelbyville; her sons, Allen Ford and his wife, Mary, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Brandt Ford and his wife, Barbara, of Louisville; and her six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, the 29thday of December, 2018, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with the Reverend Dr. R. Maurice Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M., until 1:45 P.M., Saturday, 29 December 2018, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6100 Dutchman’s Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, Kentucky. 40205-3284.
