Carl Winfred Holt, 88, formerly of Chaplin, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. He was born July 31, 1925, to Edward and Elizabeth Satterly Holt in Chaplin. He was a 1944 graduate of Chaplin High School and a member of Chaplin Christian Church. He was retired after a 35-year career selling insurance primarily with American Republic Insurance Company. While there he achieved the position of "Sales Immortal" and also was on the "Presidents Council". He was a lifetime University of Kentucky basketball fan and proudly served in the Committee of 101, a UK athletics booster and fan organization. He also loved to cook for friends and family and was well known for his wonderful sense of humor, which was shared with any and everyone he met. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Howard Wayne Holt, and three brothers, Harold, Virgil, and Ernest Lee Holt.

Survivors include three daughters, Trina (Bill) Elliott, of Danville, Kathy (Nicky) Blandford, of Lebanon, Carla Holt, of Lexington; five sons, Harold Holt, Gary (Diane) Holt, Spencer (Corinne) Holt, all of Louisville, Mike (Angela) Holt, of Lebanon, Alan Holt, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Mary Evelyn (Tommy) Baker, of Chaplin, a special friend, Elaine Yates; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with burial will be in Highview Cemetery at Chaplin. Bro. Brent Baker will officiate. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Houghlin Funeral Home. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association. Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
