OBITUARY
Emma A. Yerxa was born at Keswick, New Brunswick, Nov. 29th, 1829. There she
grew to womanhood and in 1847 was married to William Pickard with whom she came
to Wisconsin in 1855, settling in Sun Prairie. Here they lived for about twenty
years when they removed to Marshall, Wis, where Mr. Pickard became station agent
for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway company and continuing in that
capacity until the time of his death in 1890. Mrs. Pickard continued to reside
in her Marshall home expect for a few months each winter spent with her son and
daughter in Chicago until the time of her death, the 12th of May, 1904.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pickard. One daughter, Mrs. Anna
Atkins, of Chicago, and the son Wilder A. Pickard of the same city, remain to
miss her and mourn her lose, as does her grand-daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Smith, of
Chicago. The second daughter, Mary Pickard Jenkin, died ten years ago in
California to which state she had removed. Mrs. Pickard also leaves two sisters
in Fredericton, New Brunswick, a brother in Smyrna, Me., another brother in
Boston, Mass., and a third in Minneapolis Minn., and her sister Mrs. Elizabeth
Pratt, of this village.
Her's was a good and useful life largely spent in sweet and willing
ministrations to her family and friends to whom the cordial doors of her home
were every open and the closing of which by the messenger of death causes
despair and grief.
The remains were brought to the village for interment Sunday.
