North Plainfield - Nicholas P. Del Vecchio, 94, died on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at home.

Born in Plainfield, Mr. Del Vecchio resided in North Plainfield.

A veteran of WWII, Mr. Del Vecchio served in the Marine Corps from 1943 - 1946. During his enlistment, he earned the rank of Corporal and was a member of the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division that invaded the Island of Iwo Jima on February 14, 1945. The Battle of Iwo Jima was a notorious battle that lasted five weeks where the United States lost thousands and thousands of soldiers.

Mr. Del Vecchio is predeceased by all of his siblings and is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well several great great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and funeral services on Friday, January 18, 2019 beginning at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave South Plainfield, NJ 07080.

Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
