Dorine Cornell Lord passed away on Saturday evening January 19, 2019 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center with her son Phil by her side. There will be calling hours held on Wednesday, Jan 23, 2019 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Burial will be private in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Canton.
She and her husband raised two children, Phil Lord a retired English teacher at OFA., of Ogdensburg and a daughter Michele Lord, a retired teacher at Heuvelton Central School of Rome NY; her beloved grandchildren Heather Kotula Sherwin, Heath Kotula and Jessica Kington Carvel; great-grandchildren Kellen, Nathan and Rian Sherwin, Rachel & Jasmine Kotula and Lila Sophia Carvel. Last but not the least all of her cats she rescued and raised and became part of her family.
Dorine was born on May 19, 1917 in Canton NY, the daughter of the late Stanley & Fana (McQuade) Cornell. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1939, and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education and French from Sorbonne in Paris. As a major in French and Latin, she taught both of these subjects as well as English III, and speech and drama from 1939 to 1982. The majority of her teaching career was at Ogdensburg Free Academy.
She was married to Harry N. Lord on September 22, 1940. Mr. Lord was a licensed land surveyor until his death in January 1975. He is remembered for his integrity and love for his family.
