Marion Bates, III, son of Mr. Marion and Mrs. Marie Carter Bates, was born on November 22, 1965 in New York City and departed this life to join his heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 8, 1985 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina.

Early in life, he came to live with his paternal grandmother in Columbia, South Carolina.

He was a member of King Emanuel New Testament Church and was a high school graduate, a certified welder and a painter.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bates, Jr.; one brother, Malcolm Bates; one sister, Marlene Bates, all of Columbia, South Carolina; his maternal grandmother Mrs. Viola Carter Hackett, and maternal step-grandfather, Mr. George Hackett of Camden, South Carolina; his paternal grandmother, Mrs . Viola Buchanan Bates of Columbia, South Carolina; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends all of whom join with the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure.

Thank You for Your Sympathy

For I am persuaded, that neither death, not life, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38, 39

The Bates family wishes to thank their many friends for all acts of kindness shown to them during their bereavement. Your calls, visits, floral expressions and gentle words were gratefully appreciated. Whatever you kindness please accept our sincere appreciation. May God add a blessing upon your life.
