Youngest son of John Hile Gates and his first wife, Louisa Christian Gates. Married Fannie Bybee in Llano County, Texas, 14 Feb 1888. Death certificate indicates burial in Kuykendall Cemetery, but San Saba County Historical Society's transcriptions do not show a marker. Widowed by 1900 with two children, Flora Gates and Albert David Gates.
