August Hammer died at the age of 96.
He and his brothers founded the Hammer Plumbing Company in 1896. He was a member of the Hope Fire Company for over 50 years. He was a member of Great Barrington Grange, No. 298, Patrons of Husbandry.
He was survived by his wife, Maude A. (Grant) Hammer; his sons, Robert O. Hammer, Albert C. Hammer, and Paul L. Hammer, all of Great Barrington, Massachusetts; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Hammer and Mary (Viner) Hammer.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 29, 1975 at the First Congregational Church.
Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
