MOLINE COUPLE NOTES WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Bates, Thirty-sixth street and Twenty-second avenue, celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary Saturday and in honor of the occasion they entertained a company of relatives and friends at a party in the People's Power Co. Auditorium Saturday night.
Included in the evening's program was a mock wedding after which the following numbers were enjoyed: Accordion solo-Miss Eunice Nyquist.
Voice duet-Rosalie Fredell and Betty Bergstrom.
Piano duet-Rosalie Fredell and Helen Trich.
Electric guitar solo-Clyde Mountain.
Song-Sidney Johnson.
Accordion solo-miss Nyquist.song-Lois Erickson.
Accordion and electric guitar-Miss Nyquist and Mr. Mountain.
An elaborate luncheon was served late in the evening, the table being centered with a large wedding cake while other appointments were in the bridal colors of pink, white and silver. Cut and garden flowers decorated the entire hall. Mr. and Mrs. Bates have live in Moline thirteen years and they have five children, two daughters and two sons, Lillian, Myrtle, Wayne, Virgil and Merlyn, all at home. Mrs. Bates is the former Edna Fredell.
Members of a club to which the two daughters belong presented Mr. and Mrs. Bates with a handsome sterling and crystal dish and the other guests presented them with a purse of money.

ALPHA- Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Bates of 116 NW Seventh Ave., Galva, formerly of Moline, will observe their 50th Wedding Anniversay at open house Sunday, Aug, 25, at the home their son In-Law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wyman Griffin at 519 NW fourth Ave., Galva. Friends and relatives were invited to call between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m.
The former Edna V. Fredell and Cloyd Bates were married Aug. 20, 1913 At Marengo, Iowa. They have resided most of their married life in the Alpha and Moline area. Bates retired last year from operating his service station for a number of years in Moline, and they then moved to their present residence in Galva. They have three sons, Wayne of Rockford, Virgil of Coal Valley, and Merlin [Merlyn] of Moline, and the daughter, Mrs. Griffin. There are 14 grandchildren. A daughter died in 1953.

Mrs. Edna M. Bates, 87, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Moline, died Friday at Aspen Health Center, Phoenix.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wendt Bros. Funeral Home, Moline, with the Rev. Thomas Raptke, Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley officiating. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Edna M. Fredell married Cloyd P. Bates in 1913 in Marengo, Iowa.
She is survived by her widower; three sons, Wayne of Byron, Virgil, of Milan, and Merlyn, of Moline: a daughter Myrtle Griffin, Phoenix; 22 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
