Jeff Sitar, 57, of Clifton passed away on February 22, 2019. He was born in 1962 in Johnstown, PA. At the age of 18 months his family moved to Passaic, NJ. His father, John, died in a car accident when Jeff was 6 and his sister, Rosie, was 11, leaving their mother, Mary, to raise them.

Those surviving Jeff are his beloved wife, Doreen (Lieberman) Sitar; his son Jonathan Sitar (companion Giovanna Grasso) of West Caldwell; his daughter Jaclyn Sitar (husband Alex Soutar) of Abingdon, MD; sister Rosemarie Balogh of Gillett, PA; sister-in-law Phyllis (husband Phil Remolador); Naomi Woolever, and Renee and Andrew Husted. Unfortunately Rosie’s husband, Arpad Balogh, also left us much too soon. Jeff’s dog Combo also feels a loss.

Jeff was an industrious child loving anything with wheels. This included Hot Wheels toy cars, then bicycles, and then mini bikes and mopeds. As he grew up he enjoyed motorcycles and racing in Englishtown.

As a youngster he frequented the Grand Auto Lock and Key shop to purchase bike accessories. The owner, Murray, put him to work repairing bikes after school. He then took interest in the lock and key aspect of the business. Murray took him on as a locksmith apprentice and Jeff became a master locksmith. That began his almost 40 year career. Murray and his wife Lil’s daughter was Doreen, who became Jeff’s wife.

Jeff participated in many Champion of Lockmasters Safe Manipulation contests, and was an 8 time Champion. 'Houdini' became his nickname. His unique skill of opening locks without damaging them was utilized by many National agencies: FBI, DEA, Homeland Security, Secret Service, US Marshalls, US Military and Historical sights. He was a member of SAVTA for safes and vaults and The North Jersey Locksmiths Association. He was recognized many times in both newspapers and television. He was always very proud of his many successes.

Jeff also pursued Martial Arts and achieved the 6th degree black belt level. He then went on to teach multiple students.

The Shook Funeral Home in Clifton handled the arrangements. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack.
