This Richard Eliot is the second son of Sir John Eliot of Port Eliot and his wife, Radigund Gedy. Richard, according to oral family history, was likely born at his grandfather Richard Gedy's estate of Trebursey in South Petherwin. As this dates prior to the keeping of an official church register, there is no known baptism record.

Richard inherited his grandfather's estate in 1629, and he lived there as an adult. He never married and died young, between the years of 1645-1648. His lands passed to his younger brother, Edward Eliot.

As he died before the official register books, there is no official burial record. However, oral family history states that he died at Trebursey and was buried there.
