Charles Edward Barnhill, 87, of Parkton passed from his earthly life on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at NC Veterans Home in Fayetteville.

He was born June 14, 1930 in Pender County, the son of the late Jerald R. Barnhill and Violet Caison Barnhill. Also remembered is his grandson, Devon Dunn; and sisters, Myrtle Hale and Iris Cain.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Deborah Dunn and Linda Kay Robb (Chuck); granddaughter, Daisey Jean Pittman (Chad); great grandsons, Marcelo Pittman and Philep Pittman; brother, Alvin Barnhill; mother of their children, Ivey “Skeeter” Barnhill; and several nieces and nephews including Michael Cain and Cindy Hester.

Charles loved and served his country with honor and dignity for more than 21 years, retiring from the US Army in 1971. He also was a retired Civil Service employee, working at Womack Army Hospital for 20 years. Charles never liked being idle so he continued as a volunteer at the hospital for six additional years. He was also a volunteer for Citizens Community Patrol under the Fayetteville Police Department.

Charles lived a full life, generously sharing his time and expertise with others. Being outdoors in all of God’s glorious nature, Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all he loved his family. Cherished memories of Charles, an honorable and good man, will always remain in our hearts.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Wanda Bayles will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the US Army Honor Guard.
