Gerald Finlay worked in Mendon Illinois for Strickler grocery. Later he worked for Selby Implement as a parts salesman. He later contracted ALS and thus retired from work in 1985. He belonged to Mendon Congregational church and served on the Village Board in Mendon Illinois.
Gerald Matthew Finlay was a resident of the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy Illinois, when he died 19 January 1987 at a Quincy Illinois hospital. His mother and stepmother predeceased him.
Reverend Peter Bagley presided over services held at a Mendon Illinois funeral parlor. Interment was in Mendon cemetery.
