Married, first, Dorothy Shields, 9 May 1918, in Springfield Illinois. Married, second, Grace Clark, 30 July 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa.

Worked as a farmer. Belonged to the Farm Bureau. Worshiped as a member of Mendon Congregational church. Served at the church as a moderator, taught a men's class and was Sunday School superintendent. Trustee of Mendon cemetery board. Director of Adams FS and Health Improvement Association.

75 year member of Mendon Lodge 449, A. F. and A. M., and the Quincy Consistory.

Gerald Finlay passed away 29 January 1995 at a nursing home in Quincy, Illinois. Both wives predeceased him. Dorothy Finlay died 15 January 1937. Grace Finlay died 1 October 1976. In addition, half-brother Matthew Finlay, and a son, Gerald Finlay Jr., predeceased him.

Worshipful Master Dave Arnsman led Masonic rites at a Mendon Illinois funeral parlor.

Reverend Dan Gansch-Boythe led funeral services held at Mendon Congregational church. Interment was at Mendon cemetery.
