Fred and his wife Wilhelmine Schrap Schwartz and their six-month-old son, Gottlieb immigrated from Bärfelde, Kreis Königsburg, Brandenburg, Prussia with her parents, John and Dorothea Schrap and her brothers Carl Schrap & Christian Fredrick "Fred" Schrap, and sister Marie Schrap. They settled in the SE section of Town Lomira. They arrived in NY on the Ship Howard May 21, 1848. They came along with August Tischer whose parents, Ehrinrich & Dorothea, came in 1847 along with the Gottlieb Schwartz party.

They farmed with parents and brother John Schwartz, but brother Carl Schwartz died about 1850. The Schraps moved to Juneau about 1860.

Fred remarried shortly after the death of Wilhelmine, but two years later he also passed away at age 48, leaving the oldest sons to support the family.
