Alice was born March 30, 1927, in Hague, to Elizabeth (Feist) and Wendelin Vetter. Alice married Gabe Welk, on September 30, 1947, at St. Mary’s Church, in Hague. Together they farmed five miles southwest of Hague, until September 1978 when they moved to Bismarck, where Alice worked at St. Alexius Hospital. Following her retirement from St. Alexius Hospital, Alice began crocheting prayer blankets for cancer patients at the hospital, which she greatly enjoyed doing. Sister Rita Miller helped Alice with this hobby by furnishing yarn and then picking up the blankets and handing them out to the patients at St. Alexius.

Alice was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society, cooked lunches at the school in Hague and was a member of the homemakers club.

Throughout her years, Alice loved to bake and made the best fudge, bread, brownies, and carmel rolls. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at Edgewood Vista playing cards, especially pinochle, earning many certificates for the games she won. Alice also loved listening to polka music.

Alice was preceded in death by, her parents; husband, Gabe; son, Larry; sisters, Lucarda, Sophie, Ann, and Kathryn; and brothers, Andrew, Michael, John and Anton.
