Harrison Allmand, esq., one of the oldest and most respected merchants of Norfolk, Va., died on Sunday last.

Daily National Intelligencer
Tuesday, July 14, 1857
Washington (DC), District of Columbia

At Norfolk Virginia, July 5, after an illness of two days, in the 63rd year of his age, Harrison Allmand, a merchant of proverbial integrity.

*Note
Harrison Allmand, Jr did not mean that this his father was Harrison Allmand, Sr. who is buried in Saint Pauls Episcopal Churchyard in Norfolk, Virginia (F.A.G. memorial 40145582).

When there were men with the same names living in the same area (in this case there were two (2)) it would help identify them. In some cases they would have used the term "younger" but here they were referred to as "Jr".
