Mr. Tilley was a member of the Princeton Church of Christ in Princeton and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a life member and former commander of both the VFW Chapter 2703 and the DAV Chapter 31 and a life member of the Veterans Council and American Legion Post 175 of Bradshaw. He was an endowment member of NRA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Edna Hartwell Tilley of the home; two sons, James (Pete) Tilley Jr. and Jeffrey E. Tilley and his wife Wendy, all of Princeton; one daughter, Shirley Wilson of St. Albans; one brother, Ray Tilley and his wife Judy of Princeton; four sisters, Lillie Thomas of Matoaka, Daisy Crist and her husband Joe of Princeton, Faye Rose and her husband Wilson of Green Valley and Violet Price and her husband John of Princeton; three grandsons and one granddaughter.
A cryptside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton with the Rev. Gary Durham officiating. Military graveside rites will conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Hartwell, Barry Adams, Walter Southern, Virgel Caldwell, Clendal White and Clyde Bailey. Friends may call Monday from 12:30 p.m. until service hour at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.ost 175 of Bradshaw.
