Note: The obituary states he died on April 6, but other records seem to indicate April 1, 1818.

PLEASE NOTE, that I do not agree with the assertion that Daniel Miesse's two wives are not buried beside him. The memorials I originally setup for them were merged and the text I wrote many years ago has been deleted after they were transferred improperly to someone who put up a second memorial. The reason why I do not agree with this is having visited the grave personally, there is space on either side of his grave and at the time I noted somewhat of a burial indention. Many stones sink and another of the family stones was unearthed after a probe was made of the ground. I am not able to visit, but I would recommend researchers ask permission to prove or disprove that this wives are in the cemetery.
----------------
Johann Daniel "Daniel" Miesse's parents were Johann Daniel Miesse and Elisabeth Gernand, as verified from his baptismal record from Elsoff, Wittgenstein (or Witgenstein), Germany which I located in records of the LDS church. His only known sibling was Johannes Miesse, and he and his parents are not believed to have come to America. After hiring a researcher in Elsoff, his ancestry was traced. Unfortunately there was much tragedy in his ancestry, including the plague and accusations of witchcraft, which may have made emigration attractive.

Daniel Miesse was a patriot of the American Revolution. He was one of twelve men chosen by General George Washington to tend the fires while the Continental troops crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776.

Daniel married twice. His first wife was Margaret Ebling (or Ebeling), and his second was Christina Eberhardt.

The children from the first marriage were:
Abraham?
Elizabeth
Suzanne
George
Jacob
John
Elizabeth, wife of Johan A. Dundor/Dundore
Catherine Weirlo?
Daniel (d.y.)
Joseph
Daniel

The children from the second marriage were:
Maria
Daniel
Abraham
