On January 2, 1865, David Irvine, Sergeant of Hospital, was married by the military Chaplain at Quebec City to Elizabeth McKenzie Smith (1841-1915). Their first child, George Samuel Irvine (1867-1925), was born on April 27, 1867 at Montreal, Quebec where the Battalion had re-deployed closer to the military threat.
Once the Fenian threat subsided, the Irvine family was posted to Cork, Ireland where their daughter, Mary Isabella Irvine (1873-1923) and youngest son, WIlliam Francis Irvine (1874-1957) were born.
The family emigrated to Canada in 1877/1888, settling near Salem in Nichol Township, Wellington County, Ontario. His occupation was reported as Chemist (druggist) and later as a farmer.
David Irvine lived out the remainder of his life with his family in Nichol Township. He died at age 66 of 'Paralysis' on October 10, 1904 and was interred in the Elora Cemetery, Elora, Ontario.
