Rose Amelia (Mimi) Romano Spry, 82, lifelong resident of Bluefield, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 7, 2018, after a long illness. She was born March 19, 1935, to the late Domenic and Carrie Banks Romano.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and homemaker, and co- owner/operator of the former Spry's Super Clean Car Wash, Spry's Coin Laundry, and Richmond Laundrymat. Mimi loved people and if she met you, you were not a stranger for long. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School 9th grade class in 1950. She graduated from Beaver (Bluefield) High School in 1953 and attended Concord College, majoring in business.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin "Benny" Harrison Spry Jr.; brother Joseph Vincent Romano; sister Velma Kathleen Cox, and stillborn twin son, Baby Boy Spry.

She is survived by her sister Alena Caldwell of Bluefield; sisters-in-law Bonnie Romano of Princeton, W.Va., and Ronell Martin of Athens, W.Va.; and brother-in-law Dennis Spry of Lewisburg, W.Va.; her three sons, Barry H. Spry and wife Reva of Abingdon, Va., Gary R. Spry and wife Wendy of Bristol, Tenn., and J. Greg Spry and partner Laura Chandler of Roanoke, Va. She also leaves behind five grandchildren (sons), Patrick Maiden of Bristol, Tenn., Nick Maiden and wife Sandi of Abingdon, Va., Benjamin Spry and wife Dana of Powell, Tenn., and Eric Spry and Jared Spry of Bristol, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Maiden, Evangeline Spry, and Domenic Spry; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Westwood Center Nursing Home, Medical Services of America, Surgical Care of the Virginia's, Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield Hematology/Oncology Associates, Kindred at Home Health Care, and Hospice Compassus for their care and services during her illness, and the many friends, neighbors, and family for their visits, calls, cards, flowers, and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are being completed by Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, West Virginia. The funeral service will take place on Friday, January 12 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1003 Wyoming Street, Bluefield, W.Va., with the Reverend Sebastian Devasya officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives from noon to 2 p.m. the day of the service at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Princeton, W.Va. where the committal service will be conducted in the mausoleum. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephews Mark Caldwell and Ernie Martin.
