Lynne is survived by her longtime partner: Virginia Leasure, her children: Lance Abbott, Darren Abbott, Wendy Craig, Brendan Abbott, and Bill O’Neill, her sisters: Marianne Becker, Cynthia Bergman, and Nadine Johnson, and grandchildren: Nicole, Gavin, Eric, Clark, Ashton, Grant, Allan, Bridget, Isabelle, and Sarah. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Clark, Hazel Martyn, and Arthur Martyn. Lynne was born in Nashville TN on April 21, 1943. She earned her PhD in 1982 from the University of Alabama in Psychiatric Social Work and was a professor at the UAH Medical School and at Alabama A&M University. She also was a therapist in private practice for many years. Lynne loved her family, her friends, and the outdoors. She was also a social activist and some of her proudest moments were being a delegate to the democratic national convention, being arrested at an anti-apartheid protest in Washington, DC, participating in the 50th anniversary of the march in Selma, and marrying same sex couples in the park during wedding week. She was an active member of the Huntsville Feminist Chorus and the American Contract Bridge League Huntsville. She donated her time to many charitable organizations, including Free To Be, A New Leash on Life, and the Food Bank of North Alabama. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, from 6 - 8 pm at the Hampton Cove Funeral Home. The Memorial service will be Friday, September 11, at 6pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville on Broadmor Road. Lynne was a huge fan of the color purple, so it would be a wonderful touch if people attending the memorial service wore a little purple. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the charities dear to Lynne that are listed above.
