Calvin M. Archer

Calvin Michael Archer, 74, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of Sandyville, died Nov. 18 2001, at North Florida Hospital, Gainesville.

He was born in Sherman, W. Va., son of the late Martin H. and Ada Archer. He graduated from Gilmore High School of Sandyville and West Virginia University, Morgantown. He was a Protestant by faith and a retired retail store manager.

He served in the Pacific during World War II with the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Rotary and Masons.

He had lined in Gainesville for four years coming from Wilmington, N.C. He was involved inn community work in the Citizens to Reform Zoning; NW Gainesville Neighborhood Homeowners Association Coalition; and the Board of Directors Turkey Creek Forest.

He worked to establish a juvenile offender counseling program in Wilmington and was known throughout his life as a good Samaritan.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Law Archer of Gainesville; two sons, James Michael Archer and Lewis Hugh Archer, both of Florida; one daughter, Zorada Farrar Reme of New York; one brother Commander Martin Dale Archer, U. S. Navy retired; four granddaughters; one grandson and four nieces.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ravenswood Cemetery. military graveside rites will be provided by the Ravenswood VFW Post 6669. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Roush Funeral Home of Ravenswood.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
