1852/53 - Married Julia Ann [Wilcox] Ross.

1854 - Birth of daughter Medora Bartlett.

1856 - Birth of daughter Louisa Bartlett.

1860 - Sugar Grove, PA Census, William is found under William "Bartlet" 29, with wife Julia 36, step-daughters Lucina 15, and Emma 13; daughters Medora 6, and Louisa 4.

1860 - Birth of son Willam H. Bartlett.

1861 - 1865, William served in the Civil War. When visiting David Curtis in 2002, we found his gravesite and beside it was a GAR flag holder with an American Flag flying.

In researching the Civil War to find what unit he served with, the following was found:

A Wiiliam Bartlett who served as a Private in what may have been "Baldwin's Infantry." His wife Julia A. Bartlett received a pension and on the application it was written: "Baldwin's Infantry - CO PA MIL INF." [1861-1934 files] That unit organized at Garland, August 9, 1862 and mustered out June 5, 1863. Usually when a unit mustered out, many times the soldiers were transferred to other units.

Also a William Bartlett, PVT, was in the 85th REG, CO F, which recruited at Meadville, PA and who was drafted September 12, 1863 and discharged by Surgeons Certificate September 24, 1864. At this point, not sure if this is the same outfit as Baldwins Infantry. If he was discharged for medical reasons, either illness or wounded, this would explain his wife receiving his pension. [Note that Columbus, PA did have different drafting dates where the men signed up, but did not find William on any of those. It was not unusual for the men to travel to the different towns to enlist.]

1870 - Spring Creek Census, William and Julia are found on this census, again with his named mispelled. This time Wlliam "Bartley" with step-daughters Emma and Lucina; and daughters Medora, and Louisa and son William age 10.

1876 - Son William dies September 1, 1876 at age 17.

1880 - Columbus Census, William 52, b. N.Y., occupation, laborer with Julia 57, keeping house.

1886 - William dies September 8, 1886. He is buried with his wife Julia Ann Wilcox Bartlett and son William H. Bartlett.
