YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad Street, for Lydia B. Yaniw, who died Friday afternoon at the Inn at Poland Way.

Lydia was born in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Rocco and Mary (Gentile) Berardino and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated from East High School and had worked as a shop clerk for General Electric, where she retired after 38 years.

Lydia was a member of Disciples of Christ Church. She enjoyed golfing and doing crossword puzzles and also loved to go shopping and out to eat.

Her husband, Stephen “Sy” Yaniw, whom she married Sept. 17, 1955, died Oct. 7, 2013.

She leaves two sisters, Eva Beradino of Boardman and Elizabeth J. Toman of Hubbard; and many nieces and nephews including her caretakers, Elaine (Robert) Moore of Austintown, Kimberly (David) Rose of Canfield and Saundra (Henry) Cardillo of Poland.

Besides her parents and her husband, Lydia was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, John, Ralph and Elliott; and three sisters, Irene Perry, Margaret Palko and Philomena Koss.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to the American Heart Association or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
