Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1960 to 1966), he played at the split end and wide receiver positions in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons. Born Angelo Anthony Coia, he attended Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he played football and competed in track and field with future Hall of Fame football Player Herb Adderley. He played collegiate football at The Citadel and later USC, prior to being selected by Chicago Bears during the 20th round of the 1960 NFL Draft. Coia experienced a world championship with the Chicago Bears in 1963 and during the NFL Title Game, he caught a pass for 22 yards. He held the distinction as being a member of the Atlanta Falcons during their inaugural season in 1966. In 77 career regular season games, he compiled 121 receptions, 2,037 yards and 20 touchdowns. After retiring from football, he trained and owned thoroughbred horses. Additionally, he served as a scout with the Oakland Raiders and worked with youth football programs.
