A very special cat.
You came into our lives young and unsure of the world around you. You didn’t know who to trust so you trusted no one. It appeared you had had a range of experiences with humans early on. We took you in and loved you from the beginning, realizing you needed time to adjust. Over time you came to trust us, but maintained some distance. You quickly became “family” and were in our thoughts daily whether we were at home or away from home. When Maxwell came into our household you again experienced unsureness. He was different. He was playful; you preferred to play alone. He could be aggressive at times, and that was bothersome to you. He was very energetic; you preferred a more leisured pace. You were not happy whenever he displaced you from a location- whether it was the sofa or the food or water bowl. You danced to your own beat, your own parade, your own universe. You expressed love, but in different ways. In time we came to fully understand you and I think you came to understand us. Through it all, we loved you, cared for you, and tried our best to ensure you had a quality of life different from when you started life. Over the years, you became ill. We did our best to soothe you. Your illnesses grew and diminished your quality of life. We could see the hurt, but all we could do was provide love and tender care. As time went on you began to suffer daily. You began to lose faculties. We saw the hurt, but tried to keep you in the family for as long as we could. Eventually the hurt was so obvious that we wanted you to rest. When you crossed the rainbow bridge, we were sad. We miss you every day. You gave us over 15 wonderful years mixed in with some challenges. Thank you for allowing us to be your humans. You will always be in our hearts. We will always love you.
