Malinda was married at least three known times. She first married Michael Roseberry, November 10, 1855 in Warren County, N.J.. From this marriage they had three sons, Charles, Alfred & John Roseberry. Michael passed away October 2, 1867 in Phillipsburg, Warren County, N.J. leaving her with their young sons to raise. Michael may have been buried in St. James Lutheran Cemetery with his parents but no gravestone or record of his burial from cemetery records has been found to place him there. This is surprising considering most of the Roseberrys buried in Straw Church have gravestones, there is only one I am aware who does not and her burial there was confirmed by cemetery records of the pastor at the time. That was Lydia Ann "Miller" Roseberry who died Dec. 28, 1867, same year as Michael Roseberry, who died but was not listed in the pastor's records as being buried there.
It is believed she either married or had a child with a man named Sayers. This child was William F. Sayers and he names his mother as his next of kin on his WWI registration. The 1880 census lists Malinda as Malinda W. Sayres married with two sons, William & Alfred, who was listed incorrectly as a Sayres not a Roseberry. It would seem William followed or made the trip to South Dakota with his half brother Alfred.
Lastly, Malinda married James Stites, a widower, about 1896 and lived with him until his death in 1907. She was living in Philadelphia at an "Old Ladies Home" at the time of her death, which her son, William references in his WWI registration.
