NEW CASTLE, PA. – Carl Singer passed away the afternoon of May 26, 2019 at the age of 80 after a sudden but brave battle with cancer.
Carl was born April 23, 1939 in New Castle to Michael and Jane (Galiano) Singer. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, where he was a prominent player on the basketball, football and track teams. He studied engineering at Geneva College, where he was a letterman on the basketball and track teams and held the school record for discus, and from which he graduated in 1961 with an Engineering Degree.
After graduation, Carl served in the 24th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of sergeant. After his service, Carl began his engineering career with Johnson Bronze and Youngstown Sheet and Tube. He spent the bulk of his career with Commercial Intertech / Parker Hannifin, from which he retired after over 40 years of service as Manager of Engineering Sales and Support.
Carl married Elizabeth (Betty) Kolodziej in 1968, and they have been lovingly married for the past 50 years. They raised two children, Jim Singer of Wexford PA, and Carla Queen of New Middletown, OH.
Mr. Singer loved home projects. He constructed the family’s home himself with help from family and friends. In recent years he especially enjoyed gardening, photography and music. He also enjoyed the company of good friends and family.
Carl is survived by his wife Betty; children Jim and Carla; sister Rosemary Bruno, and grandchildren Brandon Singer, Brooke Singer and Michelle Queen.
Mr. Singer was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Jonathan Queen.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 S. Mill St., New Castle Pa.
A Blessing Service will be held immediately following visitation in the funeral home. Deacon Dan Kielar will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery.
