SPUR (Special) Services for George Austin Mathewson Sr., 85, of Spur will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Community Bible Chapel with Ned Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
He was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Devils Lake, North Dakota and died on Sun, Jan 2, 2000, in Lubbock, Texas.
He married Minnie Pearl Hunter on Nov. 15, 1954, in Laredo. She died Jan. 13, 1969. They moved to Spur from Laredo in 1960.
He was a member of the Aircraft Owner's and Pilots Association. He served as a naval instructor in Bryan during World War II. He was a crop duster from 1945 to 1979.
Survivors include three sons, George Jr. of Shallowater, Roy A. Long of Richman and George Milony of Mission; three daughters, Clara Ann Webb and Evelyn M. Dement, both of Lubbock, and Barbara Jean Mathewson of Mission; a sister, Evelyn Blinkenbery of Watsonville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
