Bruce Shafer was a big man with a big heart. He had many interests in life, and among the top of that list was hunting, fishing, and collecting license plates. Bruce was a member of the ALPCA, The Automobile License Plate Collector's Association, which is the National Association for those who follow this hobby. Bruce attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank offered by the Boy Scouts of America, and he went on to be an active adult leader as a Troop Leader and county officer in this organization. He also was active in his local church, the Davison Free Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees of the church. Bruce spent his working life at General Motors and retired from their V8 facility in Flint. He was a caring and faithful husband to Shirley York Shafer, and father to his three children, Ruth, Rebecca, and Mark. It is ironic that Bruce would pass away on opening day of Michigan's deer hunting season, a day he anticipated each year his whole life and failed to miss few if any. He died after battling pancreatic cancer and several severe and life threatening illnesses, victorious in Christ and ready to meet his Lord in glory. It is reported that some of his final words were, "Get out of the way my chariot's coming." How fitting!
