Cartoonist, Animator. Hugely popular creator of the comic strip "Little Nemo in Slumberland." In 1909, he began to draw cartoons for animated movies, releasing "Little Nemo" in 1911, "How a Mosquito Operates" in 1912, and "Gertie, The Trained Dinosaur," his most famous movie containing 10,000 separate drawings, in 1914. In 1917, he released "The Sinking of the Lusitania," containing 25,000 separate drawing - the first feature-length animated cartoon. While a handful of very primitive animated films preceded his, historians agree that McCay invented the medium.
