Lydia was the daughter of James Scammon and Lydia Parker Wiggin, who were married on 4 April 1796 in Brentwood. No record has been found of her marriage to Benjamin Barker but her obituary in the Exeter Newsletter reports that they were married in 1823. They had three children - Lydia Ann (1st wife of Rev. Daniel Smith), Benjamin Franklin and James S. The last lived in Chicago at the time of her death.
