Ralph Roddy Jr, age 87 of Winchester, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at NHC in Tullahoma. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Sewanee on November 10, 1931 to the late Ralph and Gertrude Caroline (Long) Roddy Sr. Ralph moved to Winchester at the age of two and lived there the remainder of his life. He graduated from Winchester Grammar School, attended Central High School, and graduated from Franklin County High School in 1950. Ralph attended the University of the South and graduated from Middle Tennessee State College in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. In April of 1949, Ralph enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard, where he was a commissioned officer serving in several battalion staff officer positions as well as Headquarters Battery Commander of the 1/115th Artillery Battalion. He graduated from several officer training schools at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and retired after twenty years of service with the rank of Major. Ralph was employed at AEDC during the 1950's, General Electric Corporation in Huntsville during the late 1950's-early 1960's, and with Computer Sciences Corporation as Director of Business Development until he retired on December 31, 1996. He enjoyed hunting for arrowheads, flower gardening, playing golf, and travelling, especially to Daytona Beach, Florida. Ralph was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Benjamin Roddy; grandson, Hunter VanHooser; and brother, Charles Edward Roddy. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Nancy Hughes Roddy of Winchester; children, Deborah VanHooser of Winchester, and Renee (Gary) Blair of Winchester; grandchildren, Ellie Herring (Amber) of Lexington, Kentucky, Nicholas (Leigh) VanHooser of Louisville, Kentucky, Jason (Jacqueline) Blair of Winchester, Josh (Rachelle) Blair of Winchester, Olivia Roddy of Nashville, and Hannah Roddy of Pleasant View; and six great-granddaughters. Visitation will be from 11am-12:30pm on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:30 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with The Rev.
