The son of Oliver and Hannah C. (Sherman) Lapham.

A 22-year-old unmarried Shoemaker who stood 5 ft. 5 in. tall and featured a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair, Albert enlisted for a nine-month term on Sep. 22, 1862 and was mustered the following day as a Private in Co. I of the 4th Massachusetts Infantry. He was mustered out of the service on August 28, 1863.

After working at home for the next fifteen months, Albert enlisted for a second time and on August 11, 1864 was mustered as a Private in the 20th Unattached Massachusetts Infantry for three months. He was promoted to Corporal. In November he agreed to another nine months duty and served until mustered out on June 29, 1865.

Albert was 24 when he married Lucy A. Hill, the 21-year-old daughter of Cushman D. and Lucy (Thomas), at Pembroke on Nov. 18, 1865. Childless throughout their marriage, they resided at Pembroke, where Albert continued making shoes. By 1900 they had established their home in Kingston, where Albert farmed.

A member of the Joseph E. Simmons G.A.R. Post 111 in Pembroke and the Martha Sever G.A.R. Post 154 in Kingston, he served a term as Post Commander at the latter post. He was a 71-year-old widower when he died of Diabetes Mellitss at Kingston.
