Bedridden Mother Sees Son Marry in Hospital
Ceremony Held in Tuberculosis Ward Where Woman Has Been Patient Since 1943
Ermal Osborne, 30 year old watchmaker, is a man who understands the longings of a mother's heart. He knows that a mother wants to be at her children's weddings, and that she wants to be on hand when her grandchildren are born.
And his mother had missed three weddings and the births of seven grandchildren since July, 1943, when she entered the tuberculosis unit of General Hospital.
Wedding at Hospital
That's why there was a wedding in the hospital yesterday, complete with bridesmaid, best man, wedding cake and decorations.
Young Osborne, oldest of six children, has his own watchmaker's shop at Edwards Air Force Base, Muroc. Two months ago, he met Katherine Perdew, 22, daughter of Earnest Perdew of Alta Loma, when she went to work in the snack bar at the base.
Yesterday, when they took their vows, it was beside the bed of his mother.
Miss Jean Matthews, 22, also of Muroc, was bridesmaid. Ermal's youngest brother, Norman D. was best man. Their father, Floyd Osborne of 761 Channel St., San Pedro, was there and so was the bride's father. About 40 patients, nurses and other hospital attendants were there, too.
"Nice of Them"
Mrs. Osborne - the mother - watched the ceremony with grave eyes. And when it was over and the groom had kissed the bride and the tall wedding cake had been cut, the mother's face softened and she smiled.
"It was so nice of them", she said, "so thoughtful of them to have it here."

Ermal 'Speed' and Kathryn (Perdew) Osborne had three children:
1. Claudia Marie Osborne
2. Gary Michael Osborne
3. Clestine Lynette Osborne

Kathryn passed away at her home in Alta Loma, San Bernardino Co., CA. on Wed. morning, Jul. 19, 2019.
